This presentation offers an introduction of the Tomakomai Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage Demonstration Project that in 2019 achieved its initial target of 300,000 tons cumulative injection. The speakers will also discuss what liabilities apply to the CO2 geological storage in Japan.
Jiro Tanaka

Jiro Tanaka has over 35 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry. Mr. Tanaka joined the International Affairs Dept. of Japan CCS in June 2016, which was newly established to engage in international activities such as information sharing and collaboration.
Prior to this, he was General Manager - Business Development in the Asia-Oceania and International Oil & Gas Divisions of Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. Ltd. (JAPEX), a leading Japanese oil & gas exploration and production company. Mr. Tanaka joined JAPEX in April 1980 after receiving a B.S. degree in geophysics from the University of Tokyo.
Hiroyasu Konno
Attorney-at-Law, Partner, Nishimura & Asahi
Hiroyasu Konno is a partner of Nishimura & Asahi, the biggest law frim in Japan. He is currently a member of a committee to consider a long-term CCS roadmap for Japan, organized by METI and RITE. He is also a member of a committee to consider “the New LNG Strategic Plan of Japan,” organized by METI and IEEJ. Hiroyasu graduated from Waseda University in 1997 and was admitted in Japan in 1999.
